The True Post (Web News) At least 35 people have been killed in an oil tanker explosion in the northern state of Niger, Nigeria.
According to the foreign news agency Reuters, the accident occurred when an oil tanker filled with gasoline suddenly overturned and the fuel in it spilled onto the road. Shortly after, the tanker exploded violently and caught fire, engulfing people and vehicles nearby.
According to Nigeria’s Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the accident occurred on a main highway in Niger State. “The tanker skidded and fell to the side of the road, causing gasoline to leak, and moments later it caught fire,” FRSC sector commander Aishato Sado said. According to authorities, the dead and injured have been transferred to a nearby hospital, while rescue operations continued for several hours.
According to the report, such accidents often occur in Nigeria, as most of the oil in the country is transported by tankers. Such accidents have become common due to the limited pipeline infrastructure and poor condition of the roads in the country.
It should be noted that Nigeria is the most populous country in Africa, where dozens of people lose their lives in traffic and fire accidents every year due to poor roads, old vehicles, and a lack of safety measures.
