According to a notification issued by the Punjab Home Department, this decision has been taken to maintain law and order in the province and deal with possible tense situations. The notification clarified that under Section 144, there will be a complete ban on display of weapons, public gatherings, rallies and sit-ins. In addition, the use of loudspeakers, in addition to the call to prayer and sermons, has also been banned.
According to sources, the government has taken this step after the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) announced to march towards Islamabad today. Yesterday too, there were clashes between TLP workers and police in various cities of Punjab including Lahore, after which the administration has tightened security. Sources say that Islamabad can be sealed at any time, while suspending mobile phone services is also being considered to avoid any untoward incident. According to the Home Department, strict action will be taken against those violating Section 144, and those disturbing public order will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
