UK: BBC Director General Tim Davey and CEO Deborah Turness have resigned from their positions following the editing controversy in US President Donald Trump’s documentary. According to reports, the BBC has been accused of failing to maintain political neutrality in its reporting.
In the controversial documentary, various parts of Trump’s speech on January 6, 2021, were edited in such a way that it seemed as if he was encouraging his supporters to march on Capitol Hill and “violent resistance”. This edited program was broadcast just a week before the US elections last year.
According to a leaked report published in The Telegraph, the BBC not only showed bias against Palestinians in its reporting on the Gaza war, but also came under intense pressure over trans issues and Trump speech editing.
According to sources, the BBC is soon considering issuing a formal apology for all these controversies. On the other hand, the White House has already called the British broadcaster a “propaganda machine”.
After the resignation of the Director-General, Donald Trump thanked The Telegraph, saying that “the truth has finally come out.”
