The True Post (Web News) The Toronto Blue Jays have taken a 5-1 lead over the Seattle Mariners in the fourth game of the American League Championship Series (ALCS) played at T-Mobile Park in Seattle.
The team is determined to even the seven-game series 2-2 with today’s victory. The Blue Jays’ star baseball players and batters are in great form for the second night in a row. In the fourth inning, Isaiah Kiner-Falifa hit a single, which was followed by Andres Gimenez’s sacrifice bunt that brought him to second base. Then George Springer hit a powerful double, giving the team a 4-1 lead. In the eightieth inning, a wild pitch from Mariners reliever Matt Brash allowed Springer to cross home plate to make the score 5-1.
In the third inning, Gimenez hit a two-run home run for the second night in a row, giving the team a 2-1 lead. Mariners starter Luis Castillo left the game after just seven outs, when he loaded the bases.
Then reliever Gabe Spier walked Dalton Warshaw to put the Blue Jays up 3-1. Seattle’s only run came on a solo home run by Canadian batter Josh Naylor in the top of the second inning. Blue Jays veteran pitcher Max Scherzer then pitched with great precision, allowing no more runs and striking out several key batters.
Max Scherzer, 41, was making his first postseason start of the season. It was his 144th postseason inning. Scherzer had been rested for the AL Division Series, but his return today gave the team a boost of confidence. “Scherzer always brings a winning spirit, and we saw that today,” said catcher Alejandro Kirk.
Shortly before the game, the team announced that Anthony Santende had been removed from the ALCS roster due to a stiff back. Outfielder Joey Loperfido had been added to replace him.
The Mariners currently lead the series 2-1, but if the Blue Jays hold on to their lead today, the series will be tied at 2-2.
The winner of the ALCS advances to the World Series, where they will face the winner of the National League Championship Series (NLCS) — the Milwaukee Brewers or the Los Angeles Dodgers. Toronto is trying to reach the World Series for the first time in more than 30 years, while the Seattle Mariners are looking to make their dream of reaching the Fall Classic a reality for the first time in their history.
