The True Post (Web News)Independent candidate Jeromy Farkas has been declared the unofficial winner of Calgary’s 2025 municipal election, edging out incumbent Jyoti Gondek and Communities First Party candidate Sonya Sharp after a closely fought race.
According to election results, Farkas received 91,065 votes, followed by Sharp with 90,480, while Gondek finished third with 71,397 votes. All 380 polling stations have reported their results.
Sharp has officially requested a recount, but Farkas said the mayoral transition process has already begun.
Speaking outside City Hall, Farkas said, “At City Hall, there’s no left or right — only forward, only together. Starting today, I’ll begin the work of uniting this new City Council.”
Farkas campaigned on fiscal responsibility, public safety, and infrastructure reform, themes that resonated with many Calgarians seeking change.
A former city councillor and 2021 mayoral runner-up, Farkas later served as CEO of the Glenbow Ranch Park Foundation. He emphasized that being independent allows him to act without pressure from the provincial UCP government.
Due to a manual vote count instead of electronic tabulators, results were delayed. Early figures also show lower voter turnout compared to the 2017 and 2021 municipal elections.
