War has Devastated Palestinian Economy, Making it one of the 10 Worst Economic Downturns Since 1960: UN Report

United Nations Trade and Development Agency have said in a report that the two-year Gaza war has completely destroyed the Palestinian economy. The UN agency’s report says that the Palestinian economy has suffered its worst decline in two years. The Israeli attacks in the occupied Palestinian territory over the past two years have damaged infrastructure, industries and public services.

According to a report by the United Nations Trade and Development Agency, the per capita output of the Palestinian economy has returned to its 2003 level, making it one of the world’s 10 worst economic downturns since 1960.

The report states that the recovery of Gaza could take decades, that Gaza will rely on extensive international assistance for recovery. The West Bank economy has also shrunk to a record low, and that the main reason for the declining economy of the West Bank is Israeli sanctions and strict controls on movement.
