Election Commission Decides to Hold Local Government Elections in Islamabad

Islamabad: Election Commission of Pakistan has decided to hold local government elections in the federal capital, Islamabad. According to the reserved decision issued by the Election Commission, the EC can appoint Returning Officer, Deputy Returning Officer and Assistant Returning Officer from government officials, judiciary or government agencies for local government elections.

It should be noted that the term of the local government in Islamabad ended on February 14, 2021.

The Election Commission is bound to hold elections within 120 days of the completion of the term of the local government, but despite this, elections have not been held in Islamabad since 2021.
