Supreme Court often sided with the powerful, not with the people: Justice Athar Minallah’s letter to the Chief Justice

Islamabad: Supreme Court Justice Athar Minallah has written a letter to Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi expressing his concerns on the issue of the proposed 27th Constitutional Amendment.

Justice Athar Minallah has said in a letter to the Chief Justice of Pakistan on November 8 regarding the 27th Constitutional Amendment that the Supreme Court often stood with the powerful, not with the people. The judicial hanging of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was an unforgivable crime of the judiciary. The actions against Benazir Bhutto, Nawaz Sharif, and Maryam Nawaz are also links in the same chain, while the treatment meted out to the founder of PTI is part of the continuation of this oppression.

He wrote that the Islamabad High Court was targeted for gaining public trust. The letters and confessions of brave judges are a burden on the conscience of the Supreme Court. We know the truth but are limited to whispers in teahouses.

The Supreme Court judge wrote in his letter that external interference is no longer a secret, it is an open fact, a judge who speaks the truth becomes a target of revenge, a judge who does not bow down, the weapon of accountability is used against him.

It should be remembered that Justice Mansoor Ali Shah’s letter to the Chief Justice regarding the proposed 27th Constitutional Amendment also came to light yesterday, in which he said that if the judiciary is not united, its independence and decisions will be affected, and that the judiciary should be formally consulted on the proposed constitutional amendment.
