The True Post (Web News)The Kelowna International Airport in British Columbia has confirmed that its information screens and public address system were hacked, causing delays to several flights. Social media posts showed pro-Hamas messages displayed on the airport’s screens.
Images circulating online showed messages such as “Israel lost the war, Hamas won,” along with derogatory remarks about former U.S. President Donald Trump. Transport Canada reported that similar incidents occurred around the same time at Ontario’s Windsor International Airport and Victoria International Airport in B.C.
Videos also showed that the Kelowna Airport’s PA system was used to broadcast slogans. A similar breach was reported at Harrisburg International Airport in Pennsylvania, USA.
In a statement on its website, the Kelowna Airport said staff successfully removed the unauthorized messages broadcast by a “third party.”
By late Tuesday night, the airport was working to restore its screen and announcement systems, during which several flights were delayed.
The next morning, the departure schedule still showed three delayed flights, though it was unclear if the delays were directly related to the cyberattack.
A group calling itself “Siberislam” claimed responsibility for the hacking incidents and shared related videos on social media.
The airport clarified that the cybersecurity breach was limited to a third-party cloud-based software, while other systems remained isolated for safety reasons. “All affected systems were isolated, inspected, and restored late Tuesday night,” the statement said.
Transport Canada confirmed it is working with federal security agencies to investigate the incident and strengthen airport cybersecurity. Victoria International Airport apologized to passengers for any inconvenience caused.
